Its March 28th and so far, its rained about 22 days out of the 28. Which means that I've been spending more time indoors and reading. In my August '05 blog entry, I mentioned some books about overcoming adversity, but they dealt with those who messed with the elements. Another fabulous book of overcoming adversity, is "A Piece of Cake" by Cupcake Brown, which was just released this year. I can't even begin to explain what the author had to endure to get to where she is today. Losing her mom at an early age and then having the court & foster system screw up her childhood (or lack thereof), she survived addictions, rape/prostitution, gangs, etc. to become a lawyer at a blue chip firm. Wow! What a journey.
The message of this book, along with those books I mentioned back last August will push my butt up the Grand Canyon in May and then carry me through the finish line again at the Nike Marathon in October. Yes, I'm crazy enough to sign up for another stint of Nike, although I'm seriously contemplating the 1/2 marathon this time, instead of the full.
