Hot & Hilly

Yesterday's coach's run was at Lake Chabot and it was my most difficult run this season. I arrived at Lake Chabot at 7:40 a.m. and it was already 77 degrees. Fortunately, portions of the course were shady, but the air was already hot and muggy. What did me in were the hills. I was able to run "through" most of them, but they really sapped my energy. Originally, I planned to run 6 miles, but I was only able to complete 4...and the last mile was walking and pulling a cart filled with a card table and water stop snacks. Fortunately, Martina had the back end of the cart, which made the mile trek much easier. By the time I finished, it was near 90 degrees.
It got even hotter as the day wore on. By 2:30, our outside temperature gauge read 115 degrees. PG&E couldn't have timed it better (or NOT)---our power croaked at 4:22 p.m. and didn't come back up until 7:35 this morning. We and the doggies were sweltering and cranky---we kept all the windows open last night and I don't think I slept at all. Between the heat and Maddie barking at every noise outside, I couldn't wait until morning. I was amazed that Lori and Patrick were able to sleep soundly through the night.

Saturday was a miserable day to run :o( GREAT JOB though on getting out there and doing the 4 miles. Patch would melt if we didn't have AC, he's a big baby about the heat.
