A Celebration of Life
One of the most dynamic women I've known passed away from breast cancer in early April. Susi hired me in 1997 to work for her at Charles Schwab and is, by far, the best boss I've ever worked for. She really worked her ass off, knew her stuff, ran a tight ship, but never micromanaged me nor her other staff members. Susi was only 1 year older than me, but already a vice president when she hired me. Although we didn't regularly keep in touch after I left Schwab, I often thought of her. Needless to say, I was shocked and saddened to her about her diagnosis in 2004 and then her passing. Susi left behind a beautiful family of 3 sons, a devoted husband, close knit parents & sibs, plus a wonderful network of friends. I attended Susi's memorial at the end of April and the church was packed---standing room only. The eulogies were a testament of how fully Susi lived her life. She is an inspiration to me and many others. I consider myself very fortunate to have known such a person!
Although this upcoming weekend's hike in the Grand Canyon is for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, I will Susi's pink breast cancer bracelet along with my red LLS one. Cancer is insidious in all its forms.
