Okay, I've completed a full marathon in 2005 and hiked the rim of the Grand Canyon in May of 2006, so now what? Well, its no rest for the weary...so I'm back on Team in Training's run team this summer. But I'm no fool, I'm training for a 1/2 marathon this time.

Forces of Nature in the City

This past Saturday was my longest run yet and it was definitely the toughest! San Francisco is an inspiring place to run. Its beauty is awesome!

Although I live in the 'burbs, I'm still a City gal at heart and spirit. I really enjoyed the first ten miles, which was a roundtrip from Crissy Field to the Embarcaderos and back. The last 7.5 miles were the most difficult of the entire 18.5 miles that I ran. Those last miles included a lot of trail running through the Presidio to Fort Baker and back. Once I started on those Presido trails, all I could think about was, yikes--"ticks, poison oak, mud (getting my shoes and sweaty self muddy) and rattlesnakes". Okay, so the climate wasn't conducive to rattlers---but there was a lot rustling in the bushes...Juraissic Park perhaps?? I'd take a T-Rex any day over a rattlesnake.

Despite being mud-splattered and taking one wrong turn, this was my best run yet. I incorporated a little Galloway (run 8 minutes, walk 1 minute) and my post race recovery has been way less painful than my earlier runs. I also switched my sports drink to Accelerade which settles in my system better than other drinks I've tried.

Go Team!
